By talking to Maria, Benson is able to ferret enough information from her so that they have a place to start, but Maria's captor has an affinity for electronics and has done everything he can to make sure that no one can find the little girl he bought and paid for.)
Mariska Hargitay 2: "Fault" (A manhunt ensues when Victor Paul Gitano, a recently released sex offender, kidnaps two children after killing the rest of their family. Benson and Stabler pursue Gitano only to find their own relationship challenged as both experience opportunities where they put their personal relationship ahead of their job. After having her throat slashed, Benson requests for a new partner when she hears what Stabler has to say about their relationship and their job.)

Edie Falco 1: "Join the Club"
Edie Falco 2: "Mayhem"

Allison Janney 1: "Institutional Memory"
Allison Janney 2: "Internal Displacement"

BEST LEAD ACTOR IN A DRAMA SERIES:
Hugh Laurie 1: "No Reason" (As House and his team are working on the diagnosis of a man with a giant, swollen tongue, the husband of a former patient walks into House's office and shoots him. House continues to treat his patient from his ICU hospital bed with the shooter, who has been shot by hospital security and hand-cuffed to his bed, as his roommate. When the after-effects of the shooting begin to impact House, he starts to question his own ability to diagnose properly. As his patient's body deteriorates, House struggles through his self-doubt and must trust his team to find a way to solve the case.)
Hugh Laurie 2: "Autopsy" (Dr. Wilson convinces House to take the case of one of his patients, a young girl with terminal cancer who starts suffering from hallucinations.)

Christopher Meloni 1: "Ripped" (When the teenage son of Stabler's old partner comes under suspicion for attacking a classmate, Stabler's inability to treat this like any other case gets him suspended.)
Christopher Meloni 2: "Class" (After Carolyn Pereira's body is dumped in an area frequented by prostitutes, Stabler and Tutuola soon realise she had far more money than a student on financial aid should have had, and learn that she was deeply involved in the worlds of online gambling and high stakes poker. Suspects include the Gloria Culhane, the roommate who ended up with the very expensive ring that Caroline stole from a star athlete, Roddy Franklin, the star athlete who had his ring taken by Caroline, and Adam Halder, Caroline's best friend from childhood who turned out to be her backup during her online gambling forays. Stabler makes a special plea for Halder, feeling like he and the young man have something in common because both were boys from the wrong side of the tracks dealing with rich kids who treated them like dirt.)

Denis Leary 2: "Rebirth" (Tommy starts taking Janet's antidepressants.)

James Gandolfini 1: "Johnny Cakes"

The BCP Daytime Emmy Predix

BCP presents---
Bryan's Picks--- The 2006 Daytime Emmy Awards

This is the first part of a three-part prediction blog for the main categories of the 33rd Annual Daytime Emmy Awards (which air on the 28th of this month on ABC, preceded by a pre-show on the cable channel SoapNet). Parts I & II will be posted here, whilst Part III will be posted at our newest blog-- http://thebcshow.wordpress.com/. Part I is our prediction for the six acting categories for Daytime Soaps, and here they are...

Best Lead Actor in a Drama Series:

ALL MY CHILDREN: Thorsten Kaye as Zach Slater (ABC)
GENERAL HOSPITAL: Maurice Benard as Sonny Corinthos (ABC)
GENERAL HOSPITAL: Anthony Geary as Luke Spencer (ABC)- WILL WIN
GUIDING LIGHT: Robert Newman as Joshua Lewis (CBS)- SHOULD WIN
GUIDING LIGHT: Ron Raines as Alan Spaulding (CBS)
Commentary: This race was pretty much sealed almost a year to the day before the nominations were announced. We thought that Newman could pull off the big upset, but his choice of tapes proved otherwise, as Geary submitted two tearjerking episodes. But, we never know with this Academy.

Here's What They Submitted:
BENARD--
Episode 1: Sonny feels responsible for A.J.'s murder. Sonny confesses to A.J.'s murder
Episode 2: Sonny commits Carly to Rose Lawn.

GEARY--
Episode 1 & 2: Luke grieves over a comatose Lucky.

KAYE--
Episode 1: Maria says goodbye to Zach.
Episode 2: Zach stuns Kendall and himself by admitting that he's falling in love

NEWMAN--
Episode 1: Reva tells Josh that she's pregnant
Episode 2: Josh confronts Jonathan about the missing money from Lewis; Josh tells Reva about the woman who flirted with him on a plane ride, and tells Reva that he may not always be there for her

RAINES--
Episode 1: Alan goes to see Phillip before he gets arrested
Episode 2: Harley and Gus admit that Alan killed Phillip

Best Lead Actress in a Drama Series:
ALL MY CHILDREN: Bobbie Eakes as Krystal Carey (ABC)
THE BOLD AND THE BEAUTIFUL: Susan Flannery as Stephanie Forrester (CBS)- SHOULD WIN
GENERAL HOSPITAL: Kelly Monaco as Samantha McCall (ABC)
GUIDING LIGHT: Beth Ehlers as Harley Cooper (CBS)
GUIDING LIGHT: Kim Zimmer as Reva Shayne (CBS)- WILL WIN
Commentary: Flannery has become a Daytime Emmy institution in the early stages of the 21st century, having been nominated six times this decade alone. Monaco's success on Dancing With the Stars helped catapult her to her second nomination. Eakes is the new comic relief in Pine Valley, and Ehlers made history with her nomination this year, by being the first female soap actor to be nominated in all three levels of competition. But I think this year, the Emmy will go to one who hasnt won in a long time...a very long time. The last time that Kim Zimmer won, Guiding Light had much, much better ratings than it did now, George Bush was still president, The Simpsons just ended their first season, and The Young and the Restless was still the # 1 soap (no one can knock it off its perch).

Here's What they Submitted:
EAKES--
Episodes 1 & 2: Krystal tries to talk Babe out of reuniting with J.R. and later plays sexy mind games with Adam

EHLERS--
Episode 1: Harley lashes out at Mallet for "killing" Gus
Episode 2: Before being sentenced, Harley pushes Gus away

FLANNERY--
Episode 1: Stehpanie suggests Brooke shoot herself
Episode 2: Stephanie confronts Eric with proof that she owns Forrester

MONACO--
Episode 1: Sam gets drunk while playing dominoes with Jason
Episode 2: Sam urges Jason to have brain surgery

ZIMMER--
Episode 1: Reva reacts to news that her pregnancy is actually menopause
Episode 2: Reva admits to Josh that he's not enough for her

Best Supporting Actor in a Drama Series:
AS THE WORLD TURNS: Trent Dawson as Henry Coleman (CBS)- SHOULD WIN
AS THE WORLD TURNS: Grayson McCouch as Dusty Donovan (CBS)
GENERAL HOSPITAL: Tyler Christopher as Nikolas Cassidine & Connor Bishop (ABC)GUIDING LIGHT: Jordan Clarke as Billy Lewis (CBS)
THE YOUNG AND THE RESTLESS: Greg Rikaart as Kevin Fisher (CBS)- WILL WIN
Commentary: One guy fell off the wagon, another guy raped his doppelgangers wife, who dumped the doppleganger for a mob boss, yet another fell into a loveless marriage with his gal pal, a fourth guy dealt with his abusive estranged father, and the fifth, the fifth- well, its too complicated. Its going to be a close race between Rikaart and Dawson, trust me.

Here's What They Submitted:
CHRISTOPHER--
Episode 1: Connor rapes Emily
Episode 2: Nikolas reels as Emily says she no longer loves him

CLARKE--
Episode 1: Billy falls off the wagon
Episode 2: Billy fights the urge to crack open a bottle of whiskey

DAWSON--
Episode 1: Henry tries to convince wife Katie to leave him for Mike
Episode 2: Henry faces off with Olga with B.J.

MCCOUCH--
Episode 1: Dusty tries to gently reject Jen's advances
Episode 2: Dusty blasts Meg for keeping silent about the baby

RIKAART--
Episode 1: Kevin deals with the death of his abusive dad
Episode 2: In therapy, Kevin addresses his feelings for Mac and anger towards J.T.

Best Supporting Actress in a Drama Series:
AS THE WORLD TURNS: Jennifer Ferrin as Jennifer Munson (CBS)- WILL WIN
GUIDING LIGHT: Crystal Chappell as Olivia Spencer (CBS)- SHOULD WIN
GUIDING LIGHT: Gina Tognoni as Dinah Marler (CBS)
ONE LIFE TO LIVE: Renee Elise Goldsberry as Evangeline Williamson (ABC)
THE YOUNG AND THE RESTLESS: Tracey Bregman as Lauren Fenmore (CBS)
Commentary: We can safely say that the two surprises wont be accepting the golden girl on Emmy night after what they submitted. Chappell submitted two bravo and dramatic performances on her reel, but I think that shell cancel herself out with Tognoni, who also submitted two of her best. I think that Ferrin will walk on through the mist as she played a young woman who lost her baby and became a drug addict (all while not knowing that her baby was alive this whole time).

Here's What They Submitted:
BREGMAN--
Episode 1: Michael and Lauren play "strip" word association
Episode 2: Lauren accepts Michael's proposal

CHAPPELL--
Episode 1: A gun-toting Olivia is taunted by Gus, who wants her to confess to Philip's murder
Episode 2: Olivia copes as Bill walks out on her

FERRIN--
Episode 1: Jen is told that her baby is dead.
Episode 2: Jen tries to keep Dusty from realizing she is on drugs

GOLDSBERRY--
Episode 1: Evangeline ends things with John
Episode 2: Evangeline reflects on her relationship with John, as her portrayer sings

TOGNONI--
Episode 1: Dinah tells Edmund that she lost the baby and is comforted by Jonathan
Episode 2: Dinah leaves a drunken message for Mallet, which leads to them making love

Best Younger Actor in a Drama Series:
AS THE WORLD TURNS: Jesse Lee Soffer as Will Munson (CBS)
GENERAL HOSPITAL: Scott Clifton as Dillon Quartermaine (ABC)- SHOULD WIN
GUIDING LIGHT: Tom Pelphrey as Jonathan Randall (CBS)- WILL WIN
THE YOUNG AND THE RESTLESS: Michael Graziadei as Daniel Romalotti (CBS)
THE YOUNG AND THE RESTLESS: Bryton McClure as Devon Hamilton (CBS)
Commentary: Clifton is a class act as an actor, in fact all five of these actors are. When the nominations were announced, this was the most accurate category I predicted, so I was not surprised at this category at all. However, when it came to the tape submissions, they all told a different story. Ones was too short, anothers was eclipsed by two longtime vets on said persons show, anothers was eclipsed by a fellow nominee from another category, anothers was subtle, and the others tape was full of emotion and rage. In the real world, who would win? Who gave it their all? Pelphrey, I think gave it his all, but I (like a lot of people) would be concerned if his constant yelling and tantrums will cost him again. Who knows?

Here's What They Submitted:
CLIFTON--
Episode 1: Dillon fights with Georgie and deals with Lucas admitting that he's gay
Episode 2: Dillon blames himself for Michael's death

Episode 2: Jonathan makes one last play for Tammy on the night before her wedding

SOFFER--
Episode 1: Will confronts Paul about blackmailing Gwen to leave town. Will confronts Gwen about taking money from Paul.
Episode 2: A jailed Will denies having poisoned Iris

Best Younger Actress in a Drama Series:
ALL MY CHILDREN: Leven Rambin as Lily Montgomery (ABC)
AS THE WORLD TURNS: Jennifer Landon as Gwen Norbeck (CBS)- WILL WIN
GUIDING LIGHT: Mandy Bruno as Marina Cooper (CBS)
THE YOUNG AND THE RESTLESS: Camryn Grimes as Cassie Newman (CBS)- SHOULD WIN
THE YOUNG AND THE RESTLESS: Christel Khalil as Lily Winters (CBS)
Commentary: Bruno is a cute and charming Marina, Khalil brought some life into Lily, and Rambin played the most challenging part of the five- that of an autistic girl (who doesnt like being touched or the color red). But I think that its between the other two in this category- Grimes, who played a girl who died in a tragic accident, and Landon, who blew all of us away with her storyline of being a teen mother who learns that the child she raised is not hers and her real child died the night it was born (see Supporting Actress- if youre confused). But I can say this, dont be surprised if Grimes wins for her part in Daytimes most controversial storyline of last year.

Here's What They Submitted:
BRUNO--
Episode 1: With Michelle preparing to leave town, Marina worries she's going to lose Danny
Episode 2: Realizing Danny loves his ex-wife, Marina breaks things off

Episode 2: Cassie dies with her family gathered around her

KHALIL--
Episode 1: Lily confronts Malcolm and Dru about her paternity
Episode 2: Lily says farewell to her friends, family, and Daniel

LANDON--
Episodes 1 & 2: Gwen learns that the baby that shes raised is Jen's and that her baby died the night it was born; Gwen tells Casey (and Tom and Margo) that her baby died

RAMBIN--
Episode 1: Zach and Lily talk about life and parenting
Episode 2: Sam's visit with Lily is interrupted by Aidan

Part II will be Drama Series (and Writing and Directing), Talk & Game Show/Host, Service Show Host, and Pre-School Children's Program

In 13 Days, the winners for these categories will be announced. In Part One, we went through the six acting categories. In this blog, we will go through Drama Series, Writing & Directing for a Drama Series, Talk Show, Talk Show Host, Game Show, Game Show Host, Service Show Host, and Pre-School Children's Series....and we'll start with Writing and Directing in a Drama Series:
Best Writing in a Drama Series:
As the World Turns (CBS)-- SHOULD WIN
The Bold and the Beautiful (CBS)
One Life to Live (ABC)
The Young and the Restless (CBS)-- WILL WIN
Commentary: Y&R won the Writer's Guild back in February for the most tragic storyline on daytime television- that of the death of a child and the aftermath. The reason why Y&R has been the # 1 soap for at least half of it's 33 years is because we can relate to who these characters are, and I think the voters will realize that this year in the writing.
What They Submitted:
ATWT:
Episode 1-- Jen & Gwen go into premature labor (Drama Series Submission); Lucinda and Meg bond
Episode 2-- Dusty confronts Meg about the paternity switch; Paul and Emily's "wedding", ending with Emily shooting Paul

B&B:
Episode 1-- Nick confronts Bridget; Brooke and Stephanie threaten one another with a gun
Episode 2-- The Christmas Episode

OLTL:
Episode 1-- Rex finds Jennifer dead; Vicki tricks David and Dorian into getting together
Episode 2-- Bo and Rex spot Daniel in a gay bar in NYC

Y&R:
Episode 1-- Daniel talks to Christine about the accident; Daniel gets arrested
Episode 2-- Cassie's death (Drama Series Submission)

Best Directing in a Drama Series:
The Bold and the Beautiful (CBS)
Days of Our Lives (NBC)
General Hospital (ABC)-- WILL/SHOULD WIN
The Young and the Restless (CBS)
Commentary: Like the year before, GH hit the ballpark with their submission tapes in this category. I can't imagine any other show beating GH in this category, can you? I thought so, because what I learned in math class was this:
General Hospital + Train Wreck Storyline= InstaEmmy

What they Submitted:
B&B: The Bold and the Beautiful submitted the same episodes for Writing and Directing (see Writing)

DAYS:
Episode 1-- The aftermath of Sami and Lucas' interrupted wedding; Belle goes into early labor
Episode 2-- Frankie Brady returns to Salem; Mimi in jail after being sentenced; Belle is forced to choose between Shawn and Phillip

GH:
Episode 1-- Two trains collide outside of Port Charles, trapping many PC residents
Episode 2-- People work together during the train crash to rescue each other as more explosions happen

Y&R:
Episode 1-- Cassie's Death
Episode 2-- Michael and Lauren's wedding; Tom Fisher confronts Ashley

Best Talk Show:
Dr. Phil (Syndicated)
The Ellen DeGeneres Show (Syndicated)-- WILL/SHOULD WIN
Live with Regis and Kelly (Syndicated)
The View (ABC)
Commentary: I can't imagine anyone but Ellen winning this.

Best Talk Show Host:
Ellen DeGeneres (The Ellen DeGeneres Show, SYN)-- WILL WIN
Regis Philbin and Kelly Ripa (Live with Regis and Kelly, SYN)
Ty Treadway and Lisa Rinna (Soap Talk, SoapNet)
Meredith Vieira, Star Jones-Reynolds, Joy Behar, Elisabeth Hasselbeck, and Barbara Walters (The View, ABC)-- SHOULD WIN
Commentary: Ellen is the new Rosie, who was once the new Oprah, enough said. But I'd like to see the View ladies win it before Meredith abandons ship.

What They Submitted:
Ellen-- Cook-off Segment; Interviews with Leah Remini and Marc Cherry; segments with George Lopez and Gwyneth Paltrow
Regis & Kelly-- Interviews with Mario Vasquez and Ashton Kutcher; Performance by Kelly Clarkson
Ty & Lisa-- Interviews with Kyle Lowder and Kristoff St. John; Human Bowling segment; Poker Game with Phil Gordon; Performance by Ronn Moss
The View Quintet-- Interview with Kevin Nealon; Beautiful People Website and Jessica Simpson scam segments

Game Show:
Jeopardy (Syndicated)-- WILL/SHOULD WIN
Who Wants to Be a Millionaire? (Syndicated)
That's it!
Commentary: This is the lackluster category, as you can see, game shows are dying, as only two are nominated this year in this (and the next) category.

Game Show Host:
Alex Trebek (Jeopardy, SYN)-- WILL WIN
Meredith Vieira (Millionaire, SYN)-- SHOULD WIN
Commentary: Heads or tails? Who ever wins the coin toss will win the Emmy. Plain and Simple

Pre-School Children's Series:
Blue's Room
HI-5
Paz
Sesame Street (PBS)-- WILL/SHOULD WIN
Commentary: If I saw this category, I would have been a child again. In the decade plus of that category, there has only been one winner, and that one winner has kept us entertained for almost 37 years now. Unless they pull an Oprah and withdraw theirselves, I don't see that ever changing.

Best Service Show Host:
Emeril Lagasse (Essence of Emeril, Food Network)
Suze Orman (Suze Orman: For the Young, Fabulous, and Broke, PBS)
Rachael Ray (30 Minute Meals with Rachael Ray, Food Network)-- WILL/SHOULD WIN
Martha Stewart (Martha, SYN)
Commentary: (Edited after the awards)- Ray is the new "it" girl of cooking (that's nominated in this category, otherwise I'd say the Italian hottie Giada DeLaurentis). Emeril's ship has sailed, and Martha's been away from the limelight for so long (doing time and looking for an apprentice), that we've forgotten who she is. However, Orman could pull off the upset. She won two years ago, and the Emmy voters love her stage presence.

and finally...the Main Course---
BEST DRAMA SERIES:
As the World Turns (CBS)
General Hospital (ABC)-- WILL WIN
Guiding Light (CBS)-- SHOULD WIN
The Young and the Restless (CBS)
Commentary: What if a show that led with the most nominations shot itself in the foot when it came to the big prize? Well, welcome to the Daytime Emmys, son. Y&R submitted the best hour of television with a lackluster episode, and as we learned in Math Class:

Y&R + Cassie's Death= Emmy Victory

However...Y&R + Cassie's Death + Lackluster 2nd Episode Does NOT = Emmy Victory

ATWT caught the same disease as Y&R. GL's tapes were great, but will they be enough to beat the most-honored show in this category? GH submitted two knockout tapes, and as I learned in Algebra:
General Hospital x Two Knockout Tapes= Emmy Victory

However, a GL win, will help boost the show's sagging morale, as the show in the past year had it's budget slashed, actor's cut loose, and sagging ratings not going up. If the show wins, there is a bright chance it could improve, and if it doesn't (Port Charles, anyone?), it could lead to a domino effect that I don't even want to think of (Another World anyone?).
To sum it up, GH will win it's second Emmy in a row on April 28, therefore probably putting the final nail in GL's coffin.

WHAT THEY SUBMITTED:
ATWT:
Episode 1-- Les terrorizes Lily and Carly as he sets the Snyder house on fire
Episode 2-- (Writing Submission) Lucinda and Meg bond; Gwen and Jen go into premature labor

GH:
Episodes 1 & 2-- Two episodes dealing with the aftermath of a train collision

GL:
Episode 1-- Tammy and Sandy's ill-fated wedding
Episode 2-- A birthday party for Phillip reveals who killed Phillip

Y&R:
Episode 1-- (Writing/Directing Submissions) Cassie's Death
Episode 2-- Lauren and Michael's honeymoon; Nick and Phyllis begin their affair
